Description
A forest in the early morning — the particular quality of light that filters through trees in the hour after sunrise, when the air is still cool and the light is low and directional, cutting through the canopy and casting long shadows. Kimura's morning forest subject explores the visual qualities of light in a dense natural setting, the trees' forms simplified into graphic elements through which the morning light passes and fragments. The subject places him in dialogue with the plein-air landscape tradition that influenced the sosaku-hanga movement.
