Description
The moon — perhaps the most recurring subject in all Japanese art, associated with contemplation, transience, poetry, and the passage of time. Kimura's moon subjects appear across his career in multiple versions and contexts, each exploring the visual qualities of the lunar disc and its light through the graphic means of contemporary woodblock printing. This untitled Moon composition presents the celestial body as a subject in its own right, the disc itself the essential form.
