Morning Star

by Kimura Yoshiharu

Medium:
Woodblock print

Description

Morning Star — Venus as it appears just before sunrise, the last visible star of the night and the herald of dawn. The morning star occupied a special place in many cultures as the boundary between night and day, its appearance marking the end of darkness and the beginning of a new day. Kimura's rendering of this celestial subject likely places the star in a pre-dawn sky — the deep blue-black of the night fading at the horizon while the star burns bright before disappearing in the coming daylight.
