Description

TSUKI TO BUDO — Moon and Grapes — a composition pairing the lunar disc with the autumn fruit of the vineyard, two subjects associated with the same season. The full moon of autumn was celebrated in the traditional Japanese moon-viewing festival (tsukimi), and grapes ripened in the same season, making the pairing a natural one. Kimura's contemporary woodblock treatment creates a graphic relationship between the round disc of the moon and the clustered roundness of the grape bunch, two forms with a family resemblance.
