Description

White Moon — a second (or alternate titled) moon composition from Kimura's celestial series. The white moon — the full moon at its most luminous — was the classic moon of Japanese poetry and contemplation, the disc from which the poet Abe no Nakamaro gazed homeward across the sea and which the Heian court ladies observed through their screens. Kimura's contemporary treatment of this ancient subject places the white disc within the graphic language of modern woodblock printing.
