$300–$2,500. Common prints: $300–$800. Key value factors: Kinoshita's bold graphic prints are modestly priced. Strong compositional works are most collectible.
This woodblock print multiplies Kinoshita Tomio's signature subject, presenting five faces together in a single composition. The title's informal notation "5people" signals an almost casual approach to what is actually a complex compositional challenge: arranging five mask-like faces so that each retains its identity while contributing to a collective image. The faces may be lined up in a row, stacked vertically, scattered across the surface, or overlapping at their edges. Each face would share the simplified, flattened treatment that Kinoshita applied to all his facial subjects, but the interaction between five such forms creates relationships that a single face cannot produce: comparison, contrast, hierarchy, and conversation. The viewer's eye moves between faces, noting similarities and differences, much as one scans a group of people in a crowd.
