Hanga
Untitled (kiyoshi-nakajima) by Nakajima Kiyoshi — Japanese Woodblock print

Untitled (kiyoshi-nakajima)

by Nakajima Kiyoshi

Medium:
Woodblock print

Description

An eighth untitled print by Nakajima Kiyoshi. Nakajima worked in the broader Showa-era tradition of Japanese printmaking that continued the Shin-hanga period's interest in landscape, figure, and seasonal subjects while developing its own more contemporary sensibility. His distinctive contribution was the sustained focus on atmospheric phenomena — wind and light in particular — as primary subjects in their own right rather than simply as contextual settings for figure or landscape compositions.
