This undated woodblock print — its Japanese title translating as "Braving the snow, our army captures the fortress at Weihaiwei" — is another version of the Weihaiwei winter assault [triptych](/glossary/triptych), with the added detail of "fortress" (kenrui) in the title emphasising the fortification's defeat. The Weihaiwei operation in January–February 1895 produced more Kiyochika triptychs than any other single engagement of the First Sino-Japanese War, the combination of dramatic winter conditions, naval and land action, and decisive strategic outcome providing subjects for multiple sequential print releases.
Yuki o okashite waga gun Ikaiei no kenrui o nuku zu (Braving the snow our army captures the fortress at Weihaiwei) was created by Kobayashi Kiyochika (小林清親).
