Description
Green Green, an unlimited edition from 1995, immerses itself in the color that most thoroughly pervades the Japanese natural year: the deep, saturated green of summer rice paddies, bamboo groves, and mountain forests. Kaneko's use of pure color as compositional subject — letting green be the content rather than merely the description of a natural scene — reflects his absorption of Western color theory alongside Japanese decorative traditions. The repeated word in the title suggests intensity, abundance, a color so present it demands repetition.
