Sensu 19

Sensu 19, edition 31 of 100 from 2004, is the nineteenth study in Kaneko's folding fan series — one of the most formally interesting of his serialized subjects because the fan's collapsible structure creates variable geometric possibilities depending on its degree of opening. A fully open fan presents a semicircular field; partially folded, it creates dynamic diagonal planes; closed, it becomes a simple rectangle. Kaneko's nineteen studies presumably explore the compositional possibilities of these different configurations.
