Description

A large spiral bloom rendered in pale gray-white coils fills the upper portion of the composition, its center flecked with mottled white and touches of red, atop a stem in pale blue-gray that descends past angular dark green leaves. The background is a deep brown with fine vertical striations and a small textured dark panel to the left, giving way to a mustard-yellow border and cream silk mounting typical of a hanging scroll; a red spiral seal and the artist's signature appear in the lower right. Woodblock print, ink and color on paper, mounted as a hanging scroll, Maki Haku, 1950.
