Description

A tall, spare bird rendered as a single sinuous black line rises on thin gray legs at right, its long curved neck ending in a rounded head with one dot eye; at upper left, an irregular off-white oval representing the moon sits against a pale beige, subtly textured ground. The composition is minimal and asymmetrical, with wide areas of blank paper surrounding the two motifs, and a red seal and pencil annotations (title, edition number, signature) in the lower margins. Woodblock print, ink and color on paper, Work 616 – Moon and Bird, Maki Haku, 1961.
