Description
YAMANASHI refers to the landlocked prefecture in central Honshu known for its dramatic alpine terrain — the foothills and slopes surrounding Mount Fuji, the Kofu Basin, and dense deciduous forests that turn brilliantly in autumn. For a printmaker from coastal Kochi, Yamanashi's mountainous interior represents a markedly different landscape register, and this print likely records a direct encounter with that terrain. Strong diagonal planes suggesting mountain ridgelines, layered color fields moving from deep forest greens or russet autumn tones through pale atmospheric distances, and the characteristic washi texture absorbing ink into a warm, organic surface are all probable formal qualities. The use of roman capitals for the title signals an outward-facing, perhaps exhibition-oriented framing of the subject, presenting a named Japanese geography to an international audience.
