Description
Loop (2018) is among Brodbeck's more technically intricate prints, built from eight woodblocks and fifteen colors. The title suggests a circular or recursive natural form — a river bend, a trail returning on itself through forest, or the seasonal cycle of a landscape feature. The high block count allows for nuanced color modulation rarely achievable in fewer-block editions: fine gradations move from deep shadow greens into midtone ochres and pale atmospheric blues across distinct carved areas. Each block impression, pressed by baren onto dampened washi, contributes incremental tonal information. The complexity of registration across fifteen color passes demands exceptional precision and reflects the sustained technical ambition of Brodbeck's practice.
