Loop (2018) is among Brodbeck's more technically intricate prints, built from eight woodblocks and fifteen colors. The title suggests a circular or recursive natural form — a river bend, a trail returning on itself through forest, or the seasonal cycle of a landscape feature. The high block count allows for nuanced color modulation rarely achievable in fewer-block editions: fine gradations move from deep shadow greens into midtone ochres and pale atmospheric blues across distinct carved areas. Each block impression, pressed by [baren](/glossary/baren) onto dampened [washi](/glossary/washi), contributes incremental tonal information. The complexity of registration across fifteen color passes demands exceptional precision and reflects the sustained technical ambition of Brodbeck's practice.
