Description
Pool is a mokuhanga landscape centered on a body of still water — a forest pond, a shallow depression in a wetland, or a tidal pool — rendered with Brodbeck's characteristic restraint. Still water provides an opportunity for mirror-like reflection, and her layered water-based pigments excel at capturing the subtle tonal differences between sky color held in the water and the darker surrounding vegetation. Horizontal bokashi gradations define the water's surface, while vertical or irregular block shapes suggest the enclosing tree line or rocky shore. The single-word title reinforces the print's focus on a bounded, reflective form within a broader landscape.
