$800–$6,000. Common subjects: $800–$2,000. Key value factors: Miki Suizan's Kyoto maiko prints are the most popular. Condition and subject matter are key value factors.
Mimuro, a hillside near the Ninnaji Temple complex in northwestern Kyoto, is renowned for its late-blooming cherry trees that flower after the main sakura season has ended elsewhere in the city. Suizan depicts the hillside blanketed in pale pink blossoms, the trees' low, spreading forms distinguishing Mimuro's omuro-zakura variety from the tall somei-yoshino that dominate other Kyoto viewing spots. The woodblock printing builds the cherry canopy through overlapping translucent pink impressions, creating depth without heavy outlining. As a lifelong Kyoto resident, Suizan knew the seasonal rhythms of specific neighborhoods and temple precincts with the familiarity of a local, not a tourist. This print records a particular place at a particular moment in its annual cycle, grounding the universal beauty of cherry blossoms in Kyoto's specific geography.
