Description
A black kitten presented as the sole subject of this print demands that Oi resolve one of mokuhanga's fundamental challenges: printing a deep, saturated black with surface presence on absorbent [washi](/glossary/washi). Multiple passes of [sumi](/glossary/sumi)-based ink build up the tone without bleeding into neighboring areas. The kitten's form is likely compact and rounded, occupying a contained portion of the composition with generous negative space. Details such as whiskers, eyes, and paw pads require precise key-block carving. The print may include a simple ground element — a floor line or minimal setting — to anchor the figure spatially. Despite its limited subject matter, the work demonstrates technical control in its tonal management.
