Description
This woodblock print by Natori Shunsen depicts the kabuki actor Nakamura Utaemon V in the role of Yodogimi, shown in close bust-length view against a plain blue background. The figure has long, wild black hair framing a white-painted face with a smirking, sidelong expression, dark arched eyebrows, and reddened eyes and lips; a hand at the chin holds a small dark object. The costume visible at the shoulders is a patterned robe in red, orange, and green with floral motifs.
