雪中の白鷺
by Ohara Koson
Koson's bird-and-flower prints are his most numerous and accessible works — he designed ~450 prints total. Common subjects in average condition remain widely available. Quality of impression, color fidelity, and publisher seal (Kokkeido preferred over Watanabe) are the key value drivers.
A white heron stands motionless in a snow-covered landscape, its pale form nearly dissolving into the wintry whiteness surrounding it. Snow-laden reeds frame the composition, and the subtle gradations of white and gray create a hushed, contemplative atmosphere that ranks among Koson''s finest achievements in atmospheric printmaking.
