Description

In this vertical color woodblock print, two dark grey-black birds with red facial patches, yellow-orange bills, and long yellow legs wade in pale blue water scattered with lily pads, one bending its head toward the surface while the other stands upright behind it. Above them, tall purple bearded iris blooms rise on a thick green stem amid blade-like green leaves, set against a background shifting from pale green at top to white and blue-grey near the waterline. A red seal and black calligraphic signature appear at lower left; the print is titled Iris and Kingfisher, by Ohara Koson, 1925.
