Description
A kingfisher with a green head and back, orange breast, and long red bill perches on a curved, thorn-studded lotus stem, positioned beneath a large white lotus blossom in full bloom and beside a smaller unopened bud. A dark, gnarled root or stump rises from the water at lower left, with broad lotus leaves and seed pods visible near the base, all set against a soft grey-blue background that darkens toward a horizon line suggesting water and mist. This woodblock print, "Kingfisher with Lotus Flower" by Ohara Koson (1926), is rendered in muted greys and blue-greens accented by the white bloom and the bird's warm orange and red coloring, with the artist's seal in red and black at lower left.
