Description
The fifth print in Bakufu's bird-and-flower series places a bird alongside a seasonal flowering plant in the kacho-e tradition that links natural observation to decorative composition. Bakufu trained in both Western naturalistic illustration and Japanese woodblock technique, and his bird-and-flower work often reflects that dual sensibility — precise in anatomical detail yet formally arranged according to Japanese aesthetic conventions of open space and asymmetric balance. The numbering within the series suggests a sustained project documenting seasonal flora and avian subjects across multiple compositions, each pairing a specific species of bird with a complementary plant in bloom.
