"Past (posthumous edition)," printed between 1955 and 1978 after Onchi's death, continued the dissemination of his most significant compositions through later printing from his original blocks or working materials. The posthumous printing of Onchi's work by his associates and estate reflected both the commercial demand for his prints and the desire to maintain access to his compositions after his death. These later printings may show subtle variations from the artist's own impressions but preserve the fundamental compositional character of his work.
