A kabuki actor in the role of the Heron Maiden is shown half-kneeling against a deep indigo ground flecked with falling snow, head tilted back and long black hair streaming loose over pale blue-white robes patterned with fine linework. The face is rendered in the white oshiroi makeup and red lip and eye accents of onnagata stage makeup, with a red-and-white striped collar visible at the shoulder beneath the outer robe. A vertical cartouche with the title in Japanese, a red seal, and the artist's carved signature appear at upper and lower left, with a pencil signature at lower right; the print is inscribed with an edition number.
