Description

Two tall, narrow rectangular posts hang side by side against a rough white plaster wall, each topped with an angled block echoing a torii gate's lintel. The left post is white with fine horizontal grain lines above and shifts to a deep red with darker striations below; the right post has a solid red angled top block and a paler pink-orange shaft with vertical grain and a darker red band near its base. The wood grain is visible throughout as a textured pattern, and pencil lines are faintly visible along some edges, giving the two abstracted forms a quiet, minimal, architectural presence. (Mokuhanga on tulip wood with hand painting and pencil; artist Paul Furneaux, title *Tori Gate*.)
