Permeation 2 continues Nishimura's investigation into the invisible processes by which materials absorb and transform one another. Executed in drypoint on what is likely an acrylic or aluminum plate rather than traditional copper — a material choice that reflects Nishimura's environmental awareness — the work builds its imagery through the distinctive burr-rich lines characteristic of the medium, which hold ink with a velvety, soft-edged quality that photographic or woodblock processes cannot replicate. The title suggests osmotic movement, the passage of substance through a boundary, a theme well-suited to drypoint's inherent unpredictability. Natural forms — possibly cellular structures, root systems, or water moving through soil — are rendered with accumulated fine lines that create tonal density and a sense of interior depth. As the second work in a series, it likely extends a visual vocabulary established in the first iteration.
Permeation 2 was created by Ryo Nishimura (西村亮) in 2022.
Permeation 2 uses Etching, on drypoint.
