Andrew and Simon called by Jesus to follow him — leaving their fishing nets at the Sea of Galilee — is among the Gospel's foundational calling narratives, the moment when the first disciples abandon their working lives for an unknown journey. Watanabe renders these fishermen in the mingei tradition's earthy directness: ordinary people depicted without idealization, their working-class humanity the very point of the story. The katazome stencil gives the figures the same flat, rich color as the lake and sky that form their familiar world.
