Description

Two stylized figures with mask-like white faces stand side by side against a black ground bordered by bright yellow paper, one with blue hair and a green-and-white patterned robe, the other with green hair and a red-striped robe, their hands rendered as bold white geometric shapes. Surrounding them are dense stylized plant forms — dark blue and white round leaves or berries at right, red and white patterned foliage at lower right, and curling green and red vine shapes at left — all rendered in flat, bold blocks of indigo, red, green, black, and white typical of Watanabe's katazome stencil technique. The print is signed "SADAO WATANABE 1963" in the lower right, consistent with the 1963 Shôwa-period dating.
