$500–$5,000. Common Biblical prints: $500–$1,500. Key value factors: Watanabe's warm, folk-art Biblical prints have a devoted collector base. Larger formats and earlier works command more.
Dated 1969, Jesus at Emmaus depicts the moment in Luke's resurrection narrative when the risen Christ joins two disciples walking to the village of Emmaus, unrecognized until the breaking of bread reveals his identity. Watanabe's katazome rendering of this "road to Emmaus" scene captures the warmth and intimacy of the encounter: three figures walking, talking, sharing a meal — the divine present among the ordinary without announcing itself, recognizable only in retrospect. The breaking-of-bread moment is one of the most humanly resonant in the resurrection narratives.
