$2,000–$8,000. Smaller works: $2,000–$3,500. Key value factors: Brayer's unique luminous technique on handmade washi appeals to collectors of both Japanese prints and contemporary art.
Lake Biwa, Japan's largest freshwater lake lying just east of Kyoto, provides both the subject and the sensory atmosphere of this mokuhanga print. Brayer has lived within reach of the lake for decades, and its moods appear repeatedly throughout her work. The "breeze" of the title suggests a print concerned with air movement across the water's surface, the way wind creates shifting patterns of light and shadow on the lake. Brayer renders this ephemeral subject through overlapping translucent color layers, each printing pass building depth without sacrificing the luminous quality that defines her technique. The result evokes the specific experience of standing at the lakeshore as wind stirs the water into restless, light-catching motion.
