$2,000–$8,000. Smaller works: $2,000–$3,500. Key value factors: Brayer's unique luminous technique on handmade washi appeals to collectors of both Japanese prints and contemporary art.
A companion to the celadon-themed bath print, this mokuhanga work shifts the palette to deep green, evoking the rich translucency of emerald. Brayer's bath series explores how water, light, and enclosure interact to create intimate color environments. The emerald tonality suggests warmer, deeper water lit from above or within, the green carrying associations with mineral springs, forest-filtered light, and the jade-toned interiors of traditional Japanese bathhouses. The woodblock printing process, which builds color through successive transparent layers, is particularly suited to conveying the visual depth of tinted water. Each pass of the baren adds another stratum of color, mimicking the way light penetrates water and reflects back through it.
