Description

This woodblock print renders Mont Blanc as a dense field of jagged, angular black forms cut against the bare cream paper, with sharp diagonal strokes suggesting fractured rock or ice faces stacked across the composition. The image is monochrome (black ink only), built from bold, rough-edged gouge marks with no human figures present; a small red seal stamp appears in the lower left and carved characters are visible within the design at upper right. The overall effect is stark and turbulent, dominated by dense, splintering black shapes. (Shiko Munakata, "Mt. Blanc," 1960, woodblock print.)
