Description

A single piece of prawn nigiri sushi rendered in close-up against a solid black background, the curved orange-and-white mottled shrimp flesh draped over a pale mound of rice, its tail fanning out to the right in bright vermillion. The composition is centered and isolated, with soft grey shadow beneath the rice defining its volume against the flat dark ground. Shoji Miyamoto's 2012 water-based woodcut on Japanese paper renders the shrimp's segmented texture and translucent striations in fine detail through layered printing.
