$1,000–$6,000. Common subjects: $1,000–$2,000. Key value factors: Nishida's luminous landscapes have found a strong international following. Limited editions sell well.
White Fuji 8 is the eighth entry in Nishida's series depicting Mount Fuji in its snow-covered winter aspect. A white Fuji is the mountain at its most iconic, the dark volcanic rock entirely concealed beneath snow so that the peak appears as a pure geometric form against the sky. By the eighth installment, Nishida has demonstrated that this seemingly simple subject, a white triangle against blue or grey, supports remarkable variation through changes in atmospheric conditions, light angles, cloud formations, and the treatment of foreground terrain. The woodblock medium renders snow particularly well because areas of unprinted paper can stand in for white, making the mountain's snowfields literally present as exposed paper surface rather than applied pigment.
