Description
Rendered in a monochrome sepia-brown palette, this print depicts the tiled eaves and latticed upper story of a traditional building, its roofline curving across the upper half of the composition amid a web of angular, crisscrossing lines suggesting wires or beams. Below, a row of pointed awnings or hanging cloths shelters a single standing figure in a long coat, next to what appears to be a cart or wheeled stall with a visible wheel at lower right. Ono's signature is inked in red at the bottom right corner; the overall effect is dense, graphic, and shadowy, built from bold black linework against the muted ground tone. (Tadashige Ono, "Hizakari Himeiji," Shôwa period, 1965, woodblock print.)
