$1,000–$8,000. Common diary prints: $1,000–$2,500. Key value factors: Noda's innovative diary-print concept has earned him major museum recognition. Earlier works and larger formats command premiums.
Set in Kashiwa in early March 2005, this woodblock and silkscreen print records a late-winter day in Noda's home city. March 5th falls before the spring equinox, when days are lengthening but cold weather persists in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Kashiwa, a residential city in Chiba Prefecture, provided Noda with the unremarkable suburban scenery that his Diary series elevated through sustained attention. By 2005, at age sixty-five, Noda had established a practice of titling works with both date and location, creating a cumulative map of his movements as well as a calendar of his days.
