$2,000–$20,000+. Common lithographs: $2,000–$5,000. Key value factors: As one of Japan's most celebrated modern artists who lived to 107, Shinoda's work has a large, devoted following. Original sumi paintings far exceed print prices.
This 1968 woodblock print on paper addresses the same subject as Shinoda's later lithographic variations, but the medium gives it a different character entirely. Carved wood yields harder edges and more deliberate tonal boundaries than lithographic stone. The ink sits with a particular density on the paper surface, each printed area carrying the grain of the block. Shinoda titled several works with weather imagery across her long career, and this early version anchors the theme in the tactile qualities of traditional printmaking, before she shifted more heavily toward lithography in later decades.
