Description
Friendship continues Shinoda's practice of naming abstract compositions with words that describe human connection. The woodblock print offers no figures, no handshake, no recognizable symbol of companionship. Instead, the relationship exists between the forms themselves, in how they occupy shared space, lean toward or away from each other, and create a composition that would collapse if any element were removed. Shinoda's background in calligraphy means every stroke carries the discipline of years spent practicing characters where the relationship between marks determines meaning.
