Nexus

Nexus is a sumi-e painting that places Shinoda's work within the direct ink-on-paper tradition she practiced throughout her career alongside her printmaking. Working without the intermediary of plate or block, sumi-e allowed her the immediate calligraphic gesture that informed all her abstract work.
