In this print, Inagaki places his characteristic feline subject within a natural setting, allowing foliage forms to frame or partially obscure the animal. The interplay between the solid, dark mass of the cat and the lighter, more broken shapes of surrounding vegetation creates a visual tension typical of his compositional approach. Inagaki would have carved the plant forms with attention to negative space, using the unprinted washi ground as an active element. The subject touches on the kacho-e tradition of bird-and-flower prints, though rendered through the sosaku-hanga ethos of direct, artist-controlled production rather than the collaborative ukiyo-e workshop model. Overlapping forms and tonal contrasts give the image spatial depth without conventional perspective.
