Bin Shiken (Min Ziqian)

A woman in a blue floral kimono with a red obi and elaborately dressed hair stands before a shoji screen, her hand extended toward a child in a red garment while two other children in striped and checked robes flank her; a gnarled pine branch and glimpse of blue sky appear at right. A narrow horizontal panel above depicts additional figures in a garden setting beside a stone lantern and low fence, with a red-and-black geometric border and vertical Japanese text along the top and side. This woodblock print, "Bin Shiken (Min Ziqian)" by Toyohara Chikanobu (1890), is rendered in muted greens, blues, and ochres accented by red.
