Description
A court noblewoman in a heavy indigo robe patterned with roses and long trailing sleeves stands at center beneath blooming cherry branches, her face powdered white and hair falling straight down her back in the traditional style. Before her a seated nobleman in a green floral robe drinks from a cup held up to him, while an attendant kneels at his side and a figure in patterned trousers looks on; behind them a red lacquer tray and stand sit on the ground. In the background rises a green mountain slope with a white fence and banners, under a pale blue sky, with additional cherry blossoms framing the upper corners of the composition — a colour woodblock print titled *The Flowering Daigo* by Toyohara Chikanobu, 1885.
