Koitsu's atmospheric night and temple scenes are his most sought-after subjects. Doi Hangaten first editions (1930s) are the most desirable; Watanabe editions are more common.
Night fishing at Morigasaki coast involves lanterns hung over the dark water, the lights attracting fish to the surface while illuminating the fisherman's posture and tackle in sharp chiaroscuro. Koitsu's composition likely shows a single figure or small boat against the vast darkness of the sea, the [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) sky above merging into the water below. The scene belongs to the tradition of fishing-by-night imagery in Japanese art, which uses the lantern as both practical tool and compositional center.
