Description
A samurai in ornate armor sits cross-legged on a fur-covered mat, head tilted back to gaze up at a pale full moon while a line of geese flies across the pale sky. His armor combines green, red, and black lacings over a checkered underlayer, with a white hood or headwrap framing his face and a long sword resting at his side; a large blue-and-white banner patterned with stylized waves rises behind him. Small offerings or vessels sit at lower right, and text-filled cartouches occupy the upper right corner of the composition. This woodblock print, titled "Uesugi Kenshin," was made by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi in 1890.
