Description
"A Summer Evening" (1890) by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi shows two seated figures from behind on a woven mat beneath a trellis of climbing vines with small white flowers, a pale moon glowing in the blue sky above. The figure on the left, bare-chested with a dark blue and white patterned garment pulled down to the waist, is being tended or fanned by the figure on the right, who wears a pale blue floral robe and a blue-tied headscarf; a round-bellied brown ceramic jar sits beside them. Muted blues, creams, and browns dominate the palette, with a vertical cartouche of text in the upper right corner.
