A portrait of Hiroko, the artist's eldest daughter, made when she was approximately five years old. Hiratsuka renders his daughter with the directness of a sosaku-hanga artist who believes the woodcut can carry intimate as well as monumental subjects. The 1928 woodcut belongs to a small group of family portraits in which his domestic life briefly enters an otherwise public-facing body of work.
