Lake Kawaguchi in Yamanashi Prefecture — the second largest of the Fuji Five Lakes — is here rendered from its shore, the mountain visible beyond the water's surface. Hiratsuka's 1930 woodblock uses the lake as compositional ground for the distant peaks. The Japanese title (Kōshū Kawaguchi kohan) locates the work in the Kōshū — old Kai Province — landscape tradition.
