The Cheomseongdae — the seventh-century astronomical observatory at Gyeongju in Korea, one of the oldest surviving observatories in Asia — is rendered in Hiratsuka's direct woodblock. The 1960 print captures the observatory's distinctive bottle-shaped stone tower, its rounded form unusual among the angular subjects he typically chose. The Korean site belongs to his continued documentation of East Asian heritage beyond Japan.
