The Sakurada-mon — the Cherry Field Gate of Edo Castle — is rendered as part of Hiratsuka's "Eight Imperial Moat" series, a body of work documenting the moats and gateways of the former shogunal fortress. The 1929 color woodblock captures the gate's massive stone wall and timber gatehouse with the structural precision of his mature architectural style. The gate is historically significant as the site of the 1860 assassination of Ii Naosuke.
