From Hiroshige's One Hundred Famous Views of Edo (1856–58), a 118-print series of vertical oban landscapes and genre scenes that defined the visual image of Edo for generations. A complete set sold for $405,400 at Sotheby's Online Jul 2024.
Kanasugibashi carried a road over one of the tidal inlets along the Shiba waterfront in southern Edo, an area of fish markets, boatyards, and the residences of lower samurai and merchants. This numbered Edo view captures the bridge and its working waterfront surroundings, a scene typical of the bay-facing districts where Edo's practical commerce met its maritime economy.
